Unprecedented Progress: FIRS Surpasses Revenue Collection Target in 2023

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) achieved an unprecedented milestone in 2023, collecting a remarkable N12.3 trillion in revenue.

This achievement was highlighted by the Chief Executive of the FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, during the FIRS special day at the ongoing 35th Enugu International Trade Fair.

Adedeji emphasized that this success was a testament to the organization’s dedication to nurturing and empowering its workforce, ensuring they possess the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to excel.

Adedeji, represented by a staff of the organization, Mrs Aisha Ribadu, expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) for the opportunity to showcase the FIRS’ commitment to national development.

The choice of the theme “Promoting Made-in-Nigeria Products for Global Competitiveness” reflects the collective aspiration to dominate the African market and assert relevance on the global stage.

Adedeji highlighted the importance of investing in human capital for sustainable development, leading to enduring growth and prosperity.

The FIRS has spearheaded transformative reforms aimed at diversifying revenue sources and enhancing the overall taxpayer experience.

One of the key initiatives is the introduction of the Taxpromax Solutions, an innovative e-service platform designed to empower taxpayers to fulfill their obligations seamlessly from anywhere at any time.

This platform aims to simplify tax administration and streamline the tax regime in the country.

ECCIMA President, Odeiga Jideonwo, acknowledged the special day’s purpose of bringing the business community and the general public closer to the activities and operations of the FIRS.

Jideonwo, represented by the first Deputy President, Nnanyereugo Onyemelukwe, emphasized the need for the FIRS to work in tandem with other agencies of government and stakeholders in the organized private sector.

This collaboration would redefine and streamline tax administration in the country, leading to a society where the rich and poor contribute to development in a fair and just manner.

The remarkable revenue collection achievement of the FIRS in 2023 showcases the organization’s commitment to improving tax collection and administration in Nigeria.

This progress sets the stage for further reforms and initiatives to boost revenue collection and ensure a fair and just contribution from businesses and individuals alike.
