UN Pledges Support for NDLEA’s Fight Against Substance Abuse and Drug Trafficking

The United Nations (UN) has pledged its support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The UN Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Amina Mohammed, made this commitment during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Accompanied by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, Ms. Mohammed emphasized the UN’s willingness to enhance the impact of the significant efforts of the NDLEA in tackling the twin problems of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, which pose a severe threat to public health and national security.

Brig-Gen. Marwa, in his response, acknowledged the UN’s support and highlighted the challenges faced by the NDLEA in its efforts to curb drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction in the country.

Despite the agency’s significant efforts, the issue of substance abuse and drug trafficking remains a major concern for Nigeria’s public health and security.

The UN’s pledge of support to the NDLEA comes at a critical time, as the agency continues to grapple with the complex and multifaceted issue of drug abuse and trafficking.

The partnership between the UN and the NDLEA is expected to strengthen the agency’s capacity to address these challenges and protect the well-being of Nigeria’s citizens.
