Transport Stakeholders Unite for Enhanced Road Safety Education in Lagos

Transport stakeholders in Lagos State have come together to address the critical issue of road safety through increased safety education for drivers and riders.

The collaboration was emphasized during a Safety Education event organized by inDrive, a global mobility and urban services platform, in partnership with the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

The event, held on April 18, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, highlighted the importance of yearly efforts to train commuters and drivers on safety measures and road signage.

Engr. Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, the Director of Transport Operations at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, emphasized the need for all relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts in safety education.

He also called on law enforcement agencies to step up enforcement of traffic laws in the State to reduce accidents, deaths, and injuries while ensuring efficient traffic management.

Senior Business Development Representative at inDrive, Timothy Oladimeji, showcased the new safety features on the inDrive app, including the ability to add emergency contacts, share ride information with authorities, and improve in-app communication between riders and drivers.

These updates are part of the inDrive Safety Pact, a comprehensive suite of safety measures designed to enhance user safety on the platform.

Oladimeji stressed the importance of safety features available on the inDrive app, urging both drivers and riders to make safety-conscious decisions and report any incidents to the relevant authorities.

Chief Superintendent of Police, Mrs. Funmilayo Omosehin, highlighted the need for drivers to be more responsible while driving and to avoid actions that could lead to harassment or arrest by traffic officers.

The event underscores the commitment of inDrive and the Nigerian Police Force to work closely with the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation to ensure the safety of road users and to address criminal activities that may occur during commutes.

With over 175 million downloads and operations in more than 700 cities across 47 countries, inDrive is a global mobility and urban services platform that provides an expanding list of services, including ride-hailing, intercity transportation, freight delivery, task assistance, courier delivery, and employment search.

The collaboration between transport stakeholders in Lagos State marks a significant step towards ensuring safer roads and a more responsible driving culture in Nigeria.
