Tinubu’s Governance: A Military Dictatorship in Disguise?

A former member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of managing the government affairs like a military dictator by allegedly shutting down the structures of the party and acting like a king with absolute knowledge of solutions to the problems facing Nigerians.

According to Lukman, the current security and socio-economic challenges in Nigeria are a threat to President Tinubu’s second term and could lead to the closure of the party’s “shop” in 2027 if not quickly addressed.

He argues that the level of poverty, insecurity, hunger, and high cost of goods and services in the country shows that both the APC and its leaders have shortchanged Nigerians.

Lukman further asserts that both former President Muhammadu Buhari and incumbent President Tinubu have rubbished the essence of the merger in 2013 and the APC manifesto by inflicting pain on the Nigerian population.

He questions President Tinubu’s interest in a second term, given his approach to governance, which he likens to a military dictatorship.

The former APC national vice chairman (North West) also highlights the disappointment among many party members who believe that both former President Buhari and President Tinubu only wanted to win elections and become Presidents of Nigeria.

He suggests that the whole merger exercise that produced the APC was a deception, with good government and policy orientation not being a priority for the leaders.

This critique of President Tinubu’s governance style raises concerns about the potential consequences for the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.

If the party fails to address the economic hardship and other challenges faced by the Nigerian people, it may face a significant loss in support.
