Mohammed Matawalle, the minister of state for defence, says a recent High Court judgment has vindicated President Bola Tinubu against claims he interfered with the judiciary. The court's decision proves Tinubu respects judicial independence and upholds democratic values, Matawalle told reporters in Kaduna on Friday.

A High Court in Abuja dismissed a lawsuit that sought to challenge the leadership structure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The judges ruled that former Senate President David Mark's position as party leader aligns with both the ADC's constitution and Nigerian law.

Matawalle used the ruling to dismiss allegations that Tinubu tried to manipulate court outcomes or push Nigeria toward one-party rule. "Tinubu's refusal to interfere with the judgment shows his commitment to democracy and judicial independence," he said in his statement.

According to the minister, the decision confirms Tinubu's dedication to the rule of law and due process. He argued that the President has never attempted to sway judicial decisions, even in politically contentious cases, despite repeated accusations from opposition groups.

Matawalle pointed to Tinubu's track record as a pro-democracy campaigner before his election. He said the President fought for democratic governance in Nigeria long before taking the top job.

The minister criticised opposition figures for spreading misinformation when court rulings didn't favour them. He said these politicians ignored judgments that demonstrated the courts were acting without political pressure.

Matawalle called on Nigerians to assess court decisions fairly and recognise Tinubu's push to strengthen democratic institutions. "The sanctity of the judiciary remains non-negotiable because the President believes that a strong and independent judiciary is fundamental to Nigeria's democratic survival, political stability and national cohesion," he added.

On the security front, Matawalle said the Federal Government continues its push to stamp out insecurity through military campaigns nationwide. He noted that troops running Operation Fansan Yamma have destroyed multiple bandit hideouts and eliminated several prominent criminal commanders across the North-West.

Matawalle reported that military operations in other regions have also degraded terrorist and bandit networks. Armed forces have liberated territories that criminal groups previously dominated, he added.

The minister reassured citizens that Tinubu remains focused on defeating insecurity by equipping and supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies. He said the government is determined to deliver the resources needed for lasting peace across the country.
