This Is A Clear Admission Of Failure’ – Group Blasts Gov Alia Over Ban On Political Gatherings

The Defenders of Democracy (DoD), a pro-democracy group, has criticized Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia over the ban on political gatherings in the state.

The group claimed that the ban is a mere diversionary tactic to mask the Governor’s failure to address the escalating security challenges in the state.

In a statement released on Friday, the group’s president, Amos Uchiv, argued that despite receiving substantial security funds monthly, Governor Alia has failed to utilize these resources to quell the wave of attacks on the populace.

The group added that the ban on political gatherings does not address the state’s security situation.

The statement further read, “Governor Alia’s announcement of a ban on political gatherings is a clear admission of failure and an invitation for a State of Emergency to be declared in Benue State.”

The group accused the Governor of being inept and incompetent in running the state and questioned how stopping political gatherings would translate to addressing the security situation in the state.

Moreover, the group reminded Governor Alia that the people of Benue voted for him to protect them, not to be flying in private jets and spending their money on personal luxuries.

The group urged the Governor to rescind the decision to avoid heating the polity unnecessarily, stating that they are in a democracy, not a dictatorship.

This development has sparked a heated debate on the effectiveness of the Governor’s decision to ban political gatherings as a means of addressing the security challenges in the state.

It remains to be seen whether Governor Alia will heed the group’s call and take more effective measures to ensure the safety and security of the people of Benue State.
