Senator Shehu Sani’s Call-Out: NCC and Telcos’ Selective Blocking Policies

Senator Shehu Sani has recently called out the National Commission Commission (NCC) and Telecommunications Companies (Telcos) for their selective blocking policies when it comes to telephone numbers used by Nigerian citizens and those used by bandits and other criminals.

In a recent X post, the Senator expressed his concern over the quick blocking of SIM cards of ordinary Nigerians while neglecting the lines used by bandits for ransom collection.

The Senator’s X post reads, “The NCC and the Telecom operators know how to quickly block SIM cards; the ones they are yet to know how to quickly block are those ones used by Bandits to collect ransom.

” This statement highlights the apparent discrepancy in the blocking policies of the NCC and Telcos, which seem to prioritize the blocking of innocent Nigerian citizens’ lines over those of criminals.

This issue has sparked a discussion on the effectiveness of the NCC and Telcos’ policies in combating crime and protecting the rights of Nigerian citizens.

It raises questions about the measures being taken to ensure that criminals are not able to use telecommunication services for illicit activities, such as ransom collection.

In response to Senator Shehu Sani’s call-out, the NCC and Telcos have yet to provide a statement on their policies and actions to address this issue.

However, it is essential for these organizations to review their current practices and take appropriate steps to ensure that they are effectively tackling criminal activities while also respecting the rights of Nigerian citizens.

As the conversation on this matter continues, it is crucial for the NCC and Telcos to engage in dialogue with the public and address the concerns raised by Senator Shehu Sani.

This would not only help to improve their policies and practices but also help to restore the trust of Nigerian citizens in their telecommunications services.
