Senator Gabriel Suswam Vows to Revive PDP as National Chairman

Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue state, has declared his intention to run for the National Chairmanship of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in order to resuscitate the party and have a substantive Chairman.

He believes that his experience and capacity make him the right candidate to turn the party’s fortunes around and bring it back to its past glory.

Speaking at an interactive session with select journalists in Abuja, Suswam highlighted the need to address the issues that have arisen since the removal of the former national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, through a court case initiated from his home state, Benue.

The party has not lived up to expectations for nearly a year, and there is a general feeling that the PDP is too despondent and requires a strong and capable leader to revive it.

Based on the constitution of the PDP and precedence, Suswam contends that it is the turn of someone from the North-central to replace Ayu.

He points out that Article 47 (6) of the party’s constitution states that once a national officer of the party is unable to act for whatever reason, the zone that he comes from should produce his replacement to complete his tenure.

Suswam emphasizes that the North-central region has a wealth of prominent persons with the capacity to lead the party.

He cites past instances where the North-central produced national officers to complete the tenure of their predecessors, such as Bamaga Tukur being replaced by Mua’zu from the North-east, and Mua’zu being succeeded by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

In addition to his determination to revive the PDP, Suswam promises to reconcile aggrieved members of the party and address any outstanding issues if elected as the national chairman.

He calls on all stakeholders and party members to support his bid and give him the opportunity to restore the party to its former glory.
