President Tinubu Urges Restraint in Summoning Government Officials

President Bola Tinubu has called on members of the National Assembly to exercise restraint in summoning heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to appear before parliamentary committees.

In a statement by Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of legislative oversight in maintaining transparency and accountability in governance, but cautioned that excessive summoning of officials could disrupt operations and hinder service delivery to citizens.

During a recent Iftar event with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the leadership of the House, President Tinubu urged lawmakers to show discretion in the exercise of their oversight powers.

He acknowledged the cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature and lauded the expeditious passage of several bills to improve the welfare of Nigerians.

President Tinubu urged the legislators to support the government’s efforts to address the challenges faced by the country, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

He stressed the need for unity and support for his administration, saying that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

The President also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of soldiers who were killed on national duty in Delta State, and pledged that their sacrifices would not be in vain.

He announced that the fallen heroes would be given a befitting burial and national honours.

In his remarks, Speaker Tajudden Abbas emphasized the importance of forgiveness, generosity, and prayers during Ramadan and called for unity in the nation and support for President Tinubu.

He noted that the executive and the legislature have continued to work in synergy for the progress of the country, and pledged to continue supporting the President and his policies.
