Power Minister Inaugurates Five Projects under Presidential Power Initiative

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has inaugurated five projects under the phase one of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), aimed at increasing Nigeria’s electricity capacity by 272 megawatts.

The projects, located in Okene, Kogi State, Amukpe, Delta State, Potiskum, Yobe State, Apo in Abuja, and Ihovbor, Edo State, are part of a strategic and systematic approach to solving Nigeria’s perennial problems of unreliable and inadequate electricity supply.

The PPI is a partnership between the Nigerian government and the German government, with Siemens Energy as the implementation partner.

The collaboration aims to boost power supply from an estimated 4,000 megawatts to 25,000 megawatts, laying the groundwork for economic development and job creation.

At the commissioning of the 60 MVA power transformer in Kogi State, Minister Adelabu emphasized the significance of the PPI in delivering reliable power supply to the entire country.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to accelerating the agreement with Siemens Energy to expand the scope of the project.

The Managing Director/CEO of FGN Power Company, Mr. Kenny Anuwe, described the day as historic and emphasized the importance of improved power supply in achieving the current administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

The deployment of 10 power and 10 mobile substations across Nigeria will augment the transmission wheeling capacity and improve access to electricity for Nigerian households and businesses.

The PPI’s projects not only address the issue of inadequate electricity supply but also create job opportunities and provide capacity building in power sector engineering for Nigerian engineers.

This, in turn, lays the foundation for economic growth and development in the country.

The inauguration of the five projects under the Presidential Power Initiative is a significant step towards addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges and fostering economic growth.

With continued collaboration between the Nigerian government, the German government, and Siemens Energy, the PPI has the potential to transform the country’s electricity landscape and improve the lives of its citizens.
