Power Grid Restoration Success: TCN Recovers National Grid After Afam Power Station Fire

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored the national grid after a fire incident at the Afam power generating station in Rivers on April 15, 2024.

The fire, which erupted around 2:41 a.m., led to a partial disturbance of the grid, causing a sudden loss of 25 MW and 305 MW from two units, Afam III and Afam VI, and destabilizing the grid, resulting in a partial collapse.

During the incident, the Ibom Power plant was isolated from the national grid to minimize the effects of the system disturbance and ensure power supply to parts of the Port Harcourt region.

The affected section of the grid has been fully restored and stabilized, according to a statement by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, in Abuja.

The TCN’s prompt action to restore the national grid showcases their commitment to enhancing the resilience and reliability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

The company has pledged to continue investing in measures to strengthen the grid infrastructure, ensuring a more stable and reliable electricity supply to the nation.

The successful restoration of the national grid after the Afam power station fire incident is a testament to the TCN’s dedication to improving the country’s power infrastructure.

This event serves as a reminder of the importance of robust and resilient power systems, as well as the need for continued investment in grid infrastructure to ensure a stable electricity supply for the nation’s citizens and industries.
