Police Launch Investigation into Abduction of Journalist Segun Olatunji in Lagos, Reach Out to Military

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated an investigation to determine the whereabouts of Segun Olatunji, the Editor of FirstNews, who was abducted from his Lagos home last Friday by men wearing Nigerian Army uniforms.

The police have promised to reach out to the military (Army) to verify if Olatunji is in their custody, as there have been speculations in the media suggesting that he was arrested by the Army.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, provided this assurance on Tuesday in Abuja while responding to inquiries about the police’s efforts to secure Olatunji’s release.

He emphasized that the police will not relent in their pursuit of the truth and will ensure that Olatunji is freed and reunited with his family.

Reacting to the development, the Publisher of FirstNews, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, commended the police’s decision to take up the matter.

He noted that although it was expected that action would have been taken earlier, the police’s involvement is a positive development.

Iworiso-Markson expressed concern about the lack of action taken by the authorities since the incident was reported five days ago.

The family is deeply distressed by the situation, and the uncertainty surrounding Olatunji’s whereabouts has left them feeling as if they are “hanging by a thread.”

They hope that the police will find and bring him back safely to his family.
