PDP: Damagun’s Survival Not a Victory for Wike – Senator Moro

Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro, has clarified that the survival of Amb. Umar Lliya Damagum as Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should not be interpreted as a victory for former governor of River State and Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, or a defeat for PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Alh. Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on the matter, Senator Moro emphasized that the issue was not about any individual but about the survival of the party.

He stated that the decision to support Amb. Damagum was a collective one, taken by the relevant stakeholders for the party to forge ahead.

He also addressed the issue of Nyesom Wike’s attendance at the National Caucus meeting, stating that as a former governor who is still a member of the party, Wike is a member of the National Caucus of the PDP.

According to Senator Moro, until actions are taken by the party’s Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committee against those perceived to have acted contrary to the desires and yearnings of the PDP, they cannot be banned from attending meetings.

The Senate Minority Leader expressed confidence that the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for August 15 would address the issue of the National Chairman of the party in accordance with the party’s constitution.

He mentioned that Section 35 (3C) of the PDP constitution provides a well-spelt-out succession plan, and the party would invoke the relevant sections to produce a replacement for Senator Iyorchia Ayu from the North Central.

Senator Moro appealed to members and stakeholders of the party to exercise restraint and circumspection in their actions and utterances to avoid further polarization of the party.

He assured that the PDP would do everything possible to put the party on its winning ways and rescue Nigerians from the current hardships caused by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
