PDP Crisis: Calls for Atiku and Wike to Be Barred from NEC Meeting

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja, concerned groups within the party have urged the Board of Trustees (BoT), PDP Governors Forum, and the National Working Committee (NWC) to prevent former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nyesom Wike from attending the meeting.

The groups argue that barring these two individuals would help restore stability and unity within the party, which has been plagued by internal conflict.

The PDP Northern Professionals Movement and PDP Elders Support Group issued a joint statement after a meeting with other party stakeholders from 22 States of the North in Kaduna.

The groups expressed their opposition to calls for the removal of Usman Iliya Damagum as acting chairman of the PDP, citing ongoing legal proceedings involving the suspended chairman, Iyorcha Ayu.

They argued that Damagum, who assumed the position of acting chairman as the Deputy Chairman, North, should remain in that capacity until the court resolves Ayu’s case or Ayu resigns.

The groups also criticized the ongoing attacks on Damagum and the NWC in the social media, describing them as “unfortunate.”

Despite the challenges faced by the PDP post-2023 general election, including the abandonment by some key figures like Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike, the party remains strong, according to the groups.

They called on party leaders to address the issues causing the internal crisis and work towards restoring peace and unity within the PDP.

The PDP’s crisis has been a cause for concern among party members and supporters, with many calling for a resolution to the ongoing conflict.

As the party prepares for its NEC meeting, the pressure is on the BoT, PDP Governors Forum, and NWC to take decisive action to address the issues and ensure the party’s continued stability and unity.
