Passengers Thwart Kidnapping Attempt in Zamfara, Kill Bandit, Seize 2 AK-47 Rifles

Passengers travelling along the Talata Mafara-Gusau highway in Zamfara State managed to thwart a kidnapping attempt by bandits, killing one of the attackers and seizing two AK-47 rifles.

The incident occurred when the family of a bride-to-be, along with other travellers, were ambushed by the armed bandits while on their way to Kano to purchase wedding materials.

The family’s journey took a dangerous turn when the bandits targeted them, forcing the passengers to act swiftly.

According to an eyewitness, the passengers heard gunshots and encountered two armed bandits on motorcycles blocking the road and halting vehicles.

The bandits ordered the bride-to-be, her father, mother, and two other relatives to exit their car and follow them into the nearby forest.

Determined to protect themselves and the abducted family members, the passengers decided to take action.

They attacked one of the bandits, ultimately killing him and seizing his firearm. The other bandit managed to escape, leaving behind his weapon as well.

The passengers then emerged from the forest and handed the two guns over to the military at a nearby checkpoint.

The brave effort, however, took a tragic turn as one of the passengers suffered a heart attack due to the traumatic experience and later died in the hospital.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State and the resilience of its people in the face of danger.

The passengers’ courageous response to the kidnapping attempt serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and unity in the fight against banditry and terrorism.

It also underscores the need for more effective measures to ensure the safety of citizens on Nigeria’s highways.
