Okuama Residents Sue Nigerian Army for N200bn Over Alleged Rights Violations

Residents of the Okuama-Ewu community in Delta State have taken legal action against the Nigerian Army, seeking a staggering N200 billion in damages for alleged rights violations during a military operation.

The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Warri, accuses the Nigerian Army of invading their community, destroying homes, displacing residents, and violating their fundamental human rights.

The plaintiffs, comprising 17 residents of the Okuama-Ewu community, have named the Nigerian Army as the respondent in the suit.

They are seeking redress for various violations, including the destruction of their homes and properties, loss of livelihood, and the psychological trauma caused by the military’s actions.

They also seek an order compelling the Nigerian Army to allow the residents to return to their homes and rebuild their community, as well as an order restraining the army from further violating their fundamental rights.
