Nigeria’s House of Representatives Postpones Resumption to April 30, 2024

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has announced a further postponement of its resumption from the ongoing recess.

The new date for resumption is now set for Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

This decision was communicated by the House through a statement released to the press in Abuja on Wednesday night.

The House spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., explained that the postponement is aimed at providing adequate time for constituency outreach, which will facilitate the submission of memoranda for the ongoing constitution review process.

The House Committee on Constitution Review has also extended the deadline for submission of memoranda to April 30, 2024.

In addition, the extended timeline will allow for more concerted preparation for the legislative summits on State Police and Tax Reforms, Revenue Enhancement, and Digital Transformation, both of which are scheduled to take place in the next two weeks.

The House of Representatives has expressed its commitment to being accountable and providing timely communication to all stakeholders, while also ensuring that its Legislative Agenda for the 10th Assembly is effectively implemented.

This latest development showcases the House’s dedication to ensuring that the legislative process remains inclusive and responsive to the needs of the Nigerian people.

By extending the deadline for submission of memoranda and rescheduling the resumption date, the House is providing an opportunity for more thorough engagement with constituents and stakeholders, which will ultimately lead to more informed decision-making and better legislation.
