Nigerian Navy Tackles Economic Loss from Illegal Oil Operations

The Nigerian Navy has expressed its concern over the significant economic loss caused by illegal oil bunkering and vandalism of oil pipelines in the riverine communities of Nigeria.

During a recent tour of the affected areas, Commodore Nanmar Lakan, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH, called for an immediate end to these activities, emphasizing their detrimental impact on the nation’s economy and citizens.

Speaking at Okolomade Community in Abua Odual Local Government Area of Rivers, Commodore Lakan highlighted the negative consequences of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

He emphasized the need for the perpetrators to consider alternative means of survival, as their actions are not only harmful to the economy but also to the well-being of the Nigerian people.

During the tour, the naval officer revealed the discovery of a large illegal site with three tanks used as storage points for illegally refined diesel, commonly known as AGO.

Commodore Lakan stated that the products would be handed over to the appropriate authority for further investigation, with the aim of putting an end to such illegal activities.

Under the mandate of the Chief of Naval Staff and Operation Delta Safe, the NNS SOROH has been actively patrolling areas within its operational responsibility.

Commodore Lakan reiterated the Navy’s commitment to ensuring that these illegal activities are stopped and urged Nigerians to trust in their efforts to maintain security and protect the nation’s economic interests.

The Nigerian Navy’s actions come at a time when the country is grappling with the consequences of oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which have resulted in significant financial losses and environmental degradation.

By stepping up efforts to combat these illegal operations, the Navy hopes to contribute to the restoration of Nigeria’s economic stability and the preservation of its natural resources.
