Nigerian Navy Seizes Illicit Drugs, Apprehends Three Suspects in A’Ibom

The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ibaka, Akwa Ibom, has successfully intercepted illicit drugs and arrested three suspected drug dealers in the state.
The operation took place on Tuesday, following intelligence from a vigilant member of the public.
Commanding Officer Capt. Uche Aneke revealed that the suspects were apprehended at approximately 10 a.m., carrying about 4,320 ampoules of Pethidine 100 mg/2ml injection solution on a fibre boat.
Pethidine is a controlled synthetic opioid substance known for its high addiction potential. The Navy’s swift action prevented the smuggling of these illicit substances from Cameroon into Nigeria.
Aneke emphasized the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities along the waterways.
He stated that advanced technologies would be continuously deployed to detect and deter such criminal operations in the future.
Emmanuel Okon, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics at the NDLEA Command in Akwa Ibom, confirmed that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to further scrutinize the matter.
The apprehended suspects were subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further legal actions.
This successful operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the nation’s maritime domain.
It also serves as a strong warning to other potential smugglers and drug traffickers that the Nigerian Navy remains vigilant and ready to take decisive action against any criminal activities within its jurisdiction.
