Nigerian Army Hands Over 131 Rescued Kuriga School Children to Kaduna State Government

The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 131 of the 137 abducted schoolchildren from the LEA Primary and Secondary School Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The children were returned to the Kaduna State government after spending 16 days in captivity.

The rescue operation was made possible through the combined efforts of various security agencies under the strategic guidance of President Bola Tinubu.

The children were found in the Dansadau forest in Zamfara State and were promptly given medical attention before being transported to Kaduna.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) I Division of the Nigerian Army and Force Commander, Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major. Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, handed over the children to Governor Uba Sani at Government House, Kaduna.

Saraso expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support and strategic guidance in the rescue operation.

He also thanked the Kaduna State government and other security agencies for their collaborative efforts in ensuring the safe return of the school children.

Governor Sani, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of not politicizing issues of insecurity in Nigeria.

He called on communities to tackle the issue of informants within their midst and urged the media and other stakeholders to be cautious in their reporting on security matters.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) commended the rescue operation and called for the strengthening of the new anti-terrorism multi-stakeholder, multi-pronged strategy.

They also urged the government to intensify efforts towards the release of other captives and implement community-based measures to secure vulnerable communities and facilities.

The rescued schoolchildren were in high spirits upon their arrival at Government House, dressed in new clothes and shoes.

Their parents were not present at the event, as the government aimed to prevent them from interacting with the media.

The successful rescue of the Kuriga schoolchildren signals a new era in anti-terrorism measures in Nigeria.

It serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration between security agencies, communities, and local authorities in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
