Nigerian Army Confirms Loss of Four Soldiers and Two Officers in Niger State Ambush

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of four soldiers and two officers during an ambush by terrorists in Niger State.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 19, 2024, when troops from the 1 Division deployed to Erena and Allawa communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State were ambushed while on a fighting patrol to Karaga village.

According to Onyema Nwachukwu, the army spokesperson, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce battle, leading to the elimination of several terrorists and the recovery of some weapons.

Despite the ambush, the soldiers were able to defend themselves and the local communities, showcasing their bravery and commitment to ensuring the safety of the Nigerian people.

The soldiers who lost their lives were buried at the militarycantonment cemetery in Minna, Niger State, following the approval of their families.

The two officers who sustained injuries during the encounter are currently receiving medical attention at a military hospital.

General Landers Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Operation Whirl Punch, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff.

He also assured the residents of Niger State that the army is committed to avenging the unfortunate setback and ensuring their safety.

The Nigerian Army has urged the local communities to continue with their normal activities and has promised to remain vigilant in protecting them from any further terrorist attacks.

The army’s swift response to the ambush and their ongoing pursuit of surviving terrorists demonstrate their dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.

The loss of these brave soldiers and officers is a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by the Nigerian military in their fight against terrorism.
