NDLEA Seizes N3.2m Fake Naira Notes, Arrests Pregnant Woman, Widow, and Others for Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking and counterfeit currency circulation in Nigeria.

In a recent operation, the agency intercepted a commercial bus carrying N3.2 million in counterfeit naira notes and arrested three suspects: an eight-month pregnant woman, Favour Peter (24); Esther Adukwu (27); and Ochigbo Michael (39).

This operation took place at the Jabi Motor Park in Abuja, following a successful seizure of the fake currency in Lokoja, Kogi State.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard (NNSL) in Lokoja, intercepted a suspect, Aliyu Lawal (37), on the Lokoja-Abuja road.

The officers recovered 620 blocks of cannabis weighing 310kg from him. Additionally, 10 sacks of the same substance weighing 98kg were seized from Jama Obodo (44) in a commercial bus coming from Ilesha, Osun State, en route to Taraba State.

In Cross River State, a 40-year-old widow and mother of two, Mrs Theodora Ita, was arrested for producing and selling a new psychoactive substance (NPS) locally known as “Combine.”

This substance is a mixture of strains of cannabis and opioids soaked in gin. Another suspect, Godwin Okon Samuel (48), was apprehended in the Essit Ebum area of Calabar with 39.4kg of cannabis.

The NDLEA’s efforts to curb drug trafficking extended to the Sabon Gari area of Kano State, where two suspects, Sani Mohammed (43) and Christopher Eze (64), were arrested with 900,000 pills of opioids.

On the Owerri-Onitsha road in Imo State, NDLEA operatives on patrol intercepted a logistics truck with registration number JGB 403 XB and recovered 230 blocks of cannabis weighing 119kg, hidden under household items.

These arrests and seizures represent the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and counterfeit currency circulation in Nigeria, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
