NDLEA Seizes Massive 900,000 Opioid Pills in Kano, Intensifies War on Drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a major drug seizure in Kano State, with the confiscation of approximately 900,000 opioid pills.

The operation, which took place in the Sabon Gari area, led to the arrest of two suspects.

The NDLEA has been actively ramping up its efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria, as evidenced by this recent success.

In addition to the massive opioid seizure, the NDLEA also intercepted 230 blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing 119kg, during a patrol on the Owerri-Onitsha road in Imo State.

The drugs were found concealed under household items in a logistics truck with registration number: JGB 403XB.

Another 252 kilograms of cannabis were seized during a raid in the Ijesa-Isu forest in Ekiti.

In a separate incident, NDLEA operatives arrested a 48-year-old suspect in the Essit Ebum area of Calabar with 39.4kg of cannabis sativa.

The agency also apprehended another suspect in Owan-East, Edo, with 40kg of cannabis, which was being loaded into the engine compartment of a gas truck.

Two motorcycles used in the transportation of the drugs were also seized.

The NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug abuse extend beyond drug seizures and arrests.

The agency has been actively engaging in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, conducting WADA sensitization lectures and advocacy visits across the country.

Some of these activities include a WADA lecture for students and staff members of Gboko Polytechnic in Benue, an advocacy visit to Kogi Governor Ahmed Ododo, and a WADA advocacy visit to officers and men of the 15 Engineering Field Regiment Nigerian Army in Lagos.

These efforts demonstrate the NDLEA’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria, as well as its dedication to raising awareness and promoting a drug-free society.

The agency’s recent successes in drug seizures and arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in the fight against drug trafficking, and the importance of continued vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies.
