N’Delta group demands for Justice for Victims of Okuama Community Razing and Extra Judicial Killings

The Coalition of Niger Delta Activists (CONDA), led by Civicist Rex Anighoro, has called for the prosecution of military personnel involved in the razing of Okuama community and the extra judicial murder of innocent civilians, including women and children.

The CONDA which decried the actions of the Nigerian Army in Okuama and other areas within the Niger Delta region following the killings of 17 soldiers, described the military operation as egregious, and as crimes against humanity, sparking outrage and demands for accountability from activists, residents of the Niger Delta, and individuals of goodwill.

According to the Convener, “Civicist Anighoro, the deliberate targeting and killing of civilians, including women and children, constitute grave violations of human rights and must be met with swift and decisive legal action.

He emphasized the importance of amplifying the demand for justice for the victims of Okuama community, paralleling the calls for accountability in cases involving military personnel.

The statement issued by CONDA underlines the principle that all lives matter, rejecting any narrative that elevates the lives of soldiers above those of civilians.

Civicist Anighoro warned that failure to address the atrocities committed against the residents of Okuama and other affected communities could incite widespread protests, surpassing the scale of the EndSARS movement.

H noted further that the report highlights the alarming trend of extra judicial killings and human rights abuses targeting Urhobo and Ijaw people in regions such as Ughelli South, Bomadi, and Bayelsa. “Such acts, labeled as war crimes, are condemned unequivocally by CONDA as gross violations of human right and dignity.”

He, therefore, demand for justice for the victims of Okuama community razing and extra judicial killings which underscores the urgent need for accountability and the protection of human rights in the Niger Delta region.

CONDA urges all activists, residents, and individuals of goodwill to join in the call for the prosecution of military personnel responsible for these heinous acts, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes.
