Muslim Visually Impaired Group Urges Nigerians to End Discrimination and Allow Marriages with Responsible Disabled Persons

The Muslim Association of Visually Impaired of Nigeria (MAVIN) has called on Nigerians to put an end to all forms of discrimination against people living with disabilities.

The appeal was made during the 9th national conference and Quran competition of the group, held in Osogbo, Osun State on Saturday.

Abdulwasiu Salaudeen, the leader of MAVIN, emphasized the importance of viewing persons with disabilities as integral members of society.

He highlighted the progress that the organization has made since its inception, noting a significant improvement in the employment and empowerment of its members.

Salaudeen stressed that there is no task an able-bodied person can perform that a person with a disability cannot.

He urged Nigerians to consider allowing their daughters to marry responsible disabled persons, rather than marrying able-bodied individuals who may be irresponsible and abusive.

“Rather than giving out their daughters to men that would turn them into punching bags, why not allow them to marry men with a disability who would be more appreciative and take care of them?” Salaudeen said.

The MAVIN leader called for increased societal acceptance and support for persons with disabilities, including job opportunities and empowerment initiatives.

He believes that such actions would further bridge the gap between able-bodied and disabled individuals, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

The Muslim Association of Visually Impaired of Nigeria is dedicated to promoting the welfare and rights of visually impaired Muslims across the country.

Through events like the national conference and Quran competition, the organization aims to raise awareness about the capabilities and potential of its members, while also encouraging dialogue and understanding among the wider society.

The Muslim Association of Visually Impaired of Nigeria’s appeal to end discrimination against persons with disabilities and to allow responsible marriages between disabled and able-bodied individuals represents a significant step towards a more inclusive and supportive society.

By working together, Nigerians can create an environment where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive and contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
