Lagos Igbo Leaders Clarify Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo Leadership Amid Controversy

Amidst rumors of a leadership crisis within the Igbo socio-cultural organization in Lagos, Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, Igbo leaders have stepped forward to clarify that Chief Sunday Ossai is the legitimate and constitutionally recognized President of the Lagos State Chapter.

This clarification comes in response to claims by some individuals who have been posing as leaders of the organization.

The group of Ndi-Eze, comprised of prominent Igbo leaders in Lagos, convened a conference to address the controversy surrounding the leadership of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo in Lagos State.

They emphasized that Chief Sunday Ossai was elected as the President of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo in 2022 and that his tenure remains valid and legitimate.

Eze Ndigbo Ikosi/Isheri, Eze Ambassador Remi Anyamele, who is also the Secretary General, Council of Ndieze Lagos State, and Eze Nicholas Njoku Eziokwubundu, Eze Ndi-Igbo of Ejigbo, both confirmed that there is only one President for Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo in Lagos State, and that Chief Sunday Ossai is the rightful leader of the organization.

The conference was also attended by other key members of the organization, including the Chairman of Chairmen, Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo Lagos State, Chief Mike Orji; South West Coordinator of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, Chief Everest Ozonweke; and the Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, Lagos State Chapter, Chief Robert Obasi.

These leaders have pledged their allegiance to Chief Ossai’s leadership, emphasizing the legitimacy of his election and the support he has from the Ime-Obi, the highest organ of Ndi-Igbo.

Chief Sunday Ossai, in his response, highlighted the qualities of a true leader, emphasizing that a leader is someone who takes risks for others and sees himself as a servant to those he is leading.

He also noted that the President General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has confirmed him as the de facto president in Lagos on more than one occasion.

This clarification by the Igbo leaders in Lagos aims to put an end to the rumors of factional leadership within the organization and to reaffirm the legitimacy of Chief Sunday Ossai’s presidency. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and proper leadership
