Kwankwaso Accused of Destroying NNPP, Attempting to Hijack Party Structure by Founder

Boniface Aniebonam, the founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has accused Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, of destroying the party and attempting to hijack its structure.

This accusation comes after Kwankwaso joined the NNPP in 2022 to contest the 2023 presidential elections and subsequently faced allegations of anti-party activities.

According to Aniebonam, Kwankwaso’s actions have been a cause for concern, as he has displayed a new logo and flag for the NNPP and made attempts to amend the party’s constitution without following proper procedures.

Aniebonam, who was also the former chairman of the NNPP’s board of trustees, stated that Kwankwaso is not a member of the board of trustees or the party’s leader, yet he is making attempts to take control of the party’s structure.

In response to Kwankwaso’s actions, the NNPP’s board of trustees suspended him, and a faction loyal to the former governor reversed the suspension.

However, Kwankwaso was later expelled from the party after failing to appear before a disciplinary committee to address the allegations of anti-party activities against him.

Aniebonam has expressed his disappointment with Kwankwaso’s actions, emphasizing that he founded the NNPP in 2002 and has been the sole financier of the party for 22 years.

He further stated that he is open to granting Kwankwaso a pardon if he purges himself of his actions and follows the party’s constitution.

The NNPP founder also mentioned that a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the NNPP issue is an internal crisis and can only be resolved using the party’s constitution.

Aniebonam and other members of the NNPP are prepared to pursue the interpretation of the constitution up to the Supreme Court if necessary.

As the internal crisis in the NNPP continues, the party’s ability to maintain unity and stability will be crucial in determining its future success.

The outcome of this situation may have a significant impact on Nigeria’s political landscape, as the NNPP navigates through this challenging period.
