Kebbi Assembly Suspends Member for Unguarded Utterances and Instigating Disharmony

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has announced the suspension of Hassan Umar, the member representing Birnin Kebbi North Constituency, due to his alleged involvement in making unguarded utterances and instigating disharmony within the legislative body.

The suspension was unanimously agreed upon during an executive session held on April 12, 2024.

In a statement released by Suleiman Shamaki, the Clerk of the House, it was revealed that the suspension was a result of Umar’s actions, which included making unguarded utterances, instigating some members against the leadership of the House, and causing disharmony between the Executive and the legislature in the House.

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has taken this decision in an effort to maintain order and unity within the legislative body, ensuring that the members can continue to work together effectively to serve the interests of their constituents.

The suspension of Hassan Umar serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining decorum and fostering a harmonious working environment within the political sphere.

The suspension of Umar is expected to last for an unspecified period, during which time the House leadership will likely evaluate the situation and determine the appropriate course of action moving forward.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by legislative bodies in Nigeria and the need for members to adhere to established codes of conduct to ensure the smooth functioning of the democratic process.
