Kaduna Governor Reveals Military Rescue of Kuriga Schoolchildren, Denies Gumi’s Involvement

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, shed light on the rescue of 137 schoolchildren abducted from the Kuriga community in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state on March 7, 2024.

Contrary to some reports, the governor clarified that the military, in collaboration with local authorities from Zamfara State, successfully rescued the pupils without the involvement of Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

Sani dismissed speculations that a ransom was paid for the release of the schoolchildren, emphasizing that Gumi had no part in the rescue operation.

The governor praised the efforts of the Armed Forces in securing the safe return of the hostages, while expressing his condolences to the family of a teacher who died during the ordeal due to complications while in captivity.

The governor also clarified that the number of abducted schoolchildren was 137, not 287 as previously reported.

He called for unity and support for the Armed Forces, stressing that their efforts were instrumental in bringing the children back to their families.

The successful rescue of the Kuriga schoolchildren serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by communities in Nigeria and the importance of collaboration between local authorities and security agencies in addressing such issues.
