KADIRS Seals UBA Branches in Kaduna Over Alleged N14.3 Million Unpaid Taxes

The Kaduna Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has sealed the United Bank for Africa (UBA) branches in the state metropolis over alleged N14.3 million in unpaid taxes.
Hajiya Aysha Ahmad, the KADIRS Board Secretary/Legal Adviser, explained that the enforcement action was part of a larger effort to ensure tax compliance throughout the state, particularly with regard to withholding taxes and money agents.
According to Ahmad, KADIRS had sent numerous demand notices to UBA, but the bank had refused to pay the outstanding amount.
Consequently, the revenue service was left with no choice but to seal the bank’s premises.
She emphasized that KADIRS aims for voluntary compliance with tax payments and expressed disappointment that the bank had been uncooperative.
The enforcement action comes as KADIRS works to meet the N120 billion revenue target set by the Kaduna State Government.
Ahmad stressed that the sealing of UBA branches in the state is just the beginning of a broader effort to achieve this goal.
She called on all residents and businesses in the state to fulfill their civic responsibility by ensuring voluntary tax compliance.
The KADIRS official also revealed that UBA had taken the revenue service to court, but the outcome of the case at the tax appeal tribunal was a win-win situation.
Despite the court’s directives to review the assessment, UBA still did not comply, prompting the enforcement action.
As the situation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of tax compliance and the consequences that can arise from neglecting to pay taxes.
The KADIRS enforcement action against UBA sends a clear message that the state government is committed to ensuring tax compliance and collecting the revenue necessary to fund public services and infrastructure projects.
