Jigawa State: Nigeria’s Food Security Catalyst

Jigawa State has emerged as a pivotal player under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This North-western state is not only central to the federal government’s food security initiative but also instrumental in achieving transformational results in the availability and affordability of food across the nation.

On November 25, 2023, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security launched the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket program, financed by the African Development Bank, in Jigawa.

This initiative focuses on five key staple commodities: rice, maize, wheat, sorghum, and soybeans.

The program is already yielding impressive results, with harvesting currently underway and products making their way to the market.

Jigawa State has also been instrumental in the development of Nigeria’s food sufficiency and security agenda.

Governor Umar Namadi has commended the efforts of the state in supporting President Tinubu’s vision, as Jigawa has positioned itself as the leading producer of wheat, hibiscus, sesame, and gum Arabic in the country.

The state is also competing for the top spot in rice production.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, acknowledged the challenges accompanying the reforms being implemented by President Tinubu, emphasizing that these changes are necessary for the ultimate benefit of the country.

He assured that the current economic pains are temporary and that the benefits will be enjoyed by all in the long run.

Idris, who is leading a delegation from the Presidency and heads of agencies under his ministry, expressed delight that the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket program is already yielding transformational results.

He also highlighted that Jigawa State is central to the federal government’s food security initiative, emphasizing the importance of the state’s role in the nation’s food security agenda.

In response to the minister’s visit, Governor Namadi commended the efforts of the federal government in bringing the entire federal communication structure to Jigawa State.

He praised the minister’s commitment to supporting the state’s efforts in achieving food security.

The federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has made significant strides in its food security agenda, with Jigawa State playing a crucial role in achieving this goal.

With the ongoing reforms and the state’s commitment to supporting the president’s vision, Nigeria is well on its way to achieving food security, benefiting the entire nation.
