INEC to Deny Accreditation for CSOs Without Election Monitoring Reports

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will no longer accredit civil society organizations (CSOs) that fail to submit election monitoring reports after each election.

The commission’s Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made this statement during a meeting with CSO leaders in Abuja on Wednesday.

Yakubu emphasized that submitting election monitoring reports and recommendations is a condition for CSOs’ accreditation.

While many organizations have submitted their reports, some are yet to do so for various elections.

The commission will enforce a strict policy of “No Observation Report, No Accreditation” for future elections.

The INEC Chairman also announced that the commission would publish the particulars of candidates for the Edo State governorship election by March 31st, following the timetable and schedule of activities for the election.

INEC’s decision to deny accreditation to CSOs without election monitoring reports underscores the importance of these reports in ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

As the Edo State governorship election approaches, the commission remains committed to adhering to the established timetable and schedule of activities.
