Chief Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho and founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, has announced the successful rescue of a woman and her son kidnapped in Oyo State. The two victims, Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son Abdulmalik, were taken from Igbope in Oorelope Local Government Area.
A joint operation involving Igboho's security network and the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force recovered the captives in Kwara State, his media office said on Saturday. The rescue mission spanned roughly three days and relied on intelligence work and surveillance of the abductors' movements.
Security operatives used a strategic approach, allowing the kidnappers to collect a ransom before launching an assault, according to the statement. The criminals fled the forest with gunshot wounds, leaving their captives behind.
Igboho detailed the operation in his remarks. "Myself and my team members with ASP Amos Ajegoke, including policemen have been in the forest for days tracking the movement of the hoodlums to ascertain the location," he said.
"But on July 2, we discovered that they were at Bode Sadu before Jebba."
The operatives moved to the location and waited until late Friday night, he explained. Around midnight, the kidnappers arrived to collect the ransom as arranged, triggering the response.
"We attacked them in the forest and there was exchange of gunshots," Igboho said.
His team pursued the criminals through the forest after the shootout. "They fled.
Later, we found out that they have abandoned Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik," he added. The rescuers heard the victims calling for help and were able to locate them in the bush.
Both captives are currently receiving medical treatment at Igboho General Hospital. Igboho credited the success of the operation to support from Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, who coordinated with the commissioners of police in Kwara and Niger States.
The activist reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property across Oke-Ogun and Oyo State. He pledged to continue deploying lawful methods to support peace and security in the region.
Igboho also called on Nigerians to remain calm and back legitimate security operations fighting crime. He cautioned against spreading unverified reports that could fuel unnecessary panic among residents.
