A roadside bomb detonated after striking a passenger trailer in Borno State on July 2, killing one traveller and wounding nine others. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported the incident via social media on Friday, citing police sources.
The explosion happened around 1:30 p.m. along the Komala village route in Konduga Local Government Area as driver Isa Uba transported passengers from Maiduguri toward Damboa. Police believe Boko Haram or ISWAP terrorists planted the improvised explosive device on the road.
One passenger died at the blast site while the other nine sustained multiple injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders arrived quickly after the explosion struck the trailer.
A combined team mobilised to the location, including military units, police tactical squads, explosive ordnance disposal experts with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear capabilities, civilian joint task force members and local hunters. The group worked to secure the area following the blast.
Medical personnel treated the injured victims at a hospital, according to Makama. The body of the deceased was transported to the same facility, where a doctor confirmed death before the family received it for burial rites.
Explosive ordnance disposal teams declared the scene safe after completing their assessment. Security forces then intensified patrols throughout the region to deter any follow-up attacks, the sources told Makama.
