Manchester City secured Josko Gvardiol's future on Tuesday, announcing the Croatian defender had penned a fresh five-year contract. The 24-year-old will now remain at the Etihad until 2031, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by another year.
Gvardiol, who arrived from RB Leipzig for £77 million in 2023, has already clocked 122 appearances for the Premier League champions. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had circled him, but he made clear his commitment to City remained unwavering.
"The moment I learned the club wanted to renew, I knew immediately it's what I wanted too," Gvardiol told reporters. "The fans have been brilliant to me since day one, and this club gives players everything they need."
The versatile defender, equally comfortable at centre-back or left-back, won the Premier League title in 2024. He suffered a broken leg that sidelined him for over four months but returned to action in May in time for Croatia's World Cup campaign.
Hugo Viana, City's director of football, backed the decision to tie down the young talent. "Josko is a player we truly believe in — he's young, a consummate professional, and already ranks among the world's finest defenders," Viana said.
Gvardiol's renewal follows similar long-term agreements with Phil Foden and Abdukodir Khusanov as City builds for the Enzo Maresca era.
