Fresh Plateau Attacks: Group Urges Security Agencies to Hunt Down Perpetrators

A peace advocacy group called the Conference of Plateau Peace Builders Network (CPPBN) has strongly condemned the recent violent attacks in Mangu and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State, Nigeria.

The attacks, which resulted in the tragic deaths of ten individuals, including a promising 200-level computer science student from Plateau State University, have prompted the group to demand that all relevant security and law enforcement agencies ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are apprehended and prosecuted.

The statement by the indigenous peace-building organization, jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Dung Bot, National Secretary, Barr. Mrs. Lucy Wuyep, Bokkos Coordinator, Chief Isaac Makut, and Mangu coordinator, Pst. Monday Mwansat, expressed their confidence in the leadership and troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a unique military task force overseeing security in Plateau and its environs.

The group also called on the Military High Command to ignore demands by some quarters for the redeployment of troops, warning that such a move could leave vulnerable communities at the mercy of terrorists.

They urged the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and sister security agencies to deploy all necessary intelligence and operational tools to bring the killers of their people to justice.

The group acknowledged that contemporary security challenges require a whole-of-society approach, urging their people to cooperate with the Military and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, movements, and persons.

They also expressed their gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his choice of Service Chiefs, which they believe has significantly contributed to the recent plea by a notorious bandit in Zamfara State, Kachalla Garba Aminu, for dialogue with the Nigerian government.

The group concluded by appealing to Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies to rid the country of crimes for the betterment of all.

As the situation in Plateau State continues to unfold, the Conference of Plateau Peace Builders Network remains committed to advocating for peace, security, and harmonious co-existence among all communities in the region.

Their call for justice and accountability for the perpetrators of these heinous acts serves as a reminder that the fight against terrorism and insecurity requires collective effort and vigilance.
