At least five people have been confirmed dead following a tragic boat accident along the Bennet Island River in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident, which occurred late Monday night, left one person missing, while six others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. Nineteen people were rescued in the aftermath of the accident.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, provided an update on Tuesday, stating: "Five found dead, six persons injured and still receiving treatment, nineteen persons rescued, one still missing.”
Details surrounding the direction or destination of the ill-fated boat remain unclear at this time.
The police and other emergency response teams are continuing efforts to locate the missing person and investigate the circumstances leading to the accident.
