FG’s New Directive: Civil Servants on Study Leave Must Provide Approval Evidence

The Federal Government has mandated that all Federal Civil Servants on study leave must provide evidence of approval obtained from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

This directive comes as part of a new mechanism for routine verification of workers in the service, aiming to confirm their “true” location.

Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, emphasized the need for physical verification in a memo addressed to all permanent secretaries.

The memo, which was made available to Punch correspondent in Abuja on Friday, highlighted the importance of sustaining the gains of the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).

As part of the new verification process, permanent secretaries have been directed to carry out physical verification of all staff in their ministry to ascertain the location of each officer.

Additionally, officers on study leave must show evidence of the approval of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to embark on such leave.

This information should be indicated in the remark column.

The directive requires that the report of the verification exercise, signed by the permanent secretary, be submitted to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service on or before April 2, 2024.

This new development is aimed at maintaining transparency and accountability within the Federal Civil Service, ensuring that officers are where they should be and that resources are being utilized effectively.

By implementing this verification process, the Federal Government seeks to optimize the performance of the Civil Service and uphold the integrity of the IPPIS system.
