Federal Ministry of Housing Commences Allocation of 8,925 Houses Nationwide

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced the commencement of the allocation process for the first batch of completed houses across the states of the Federation.

This significant step is part of the National Housing Programme (NHP), which aims to address the housing needs of Nigerian citizens.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, who stated that a total of 8,925 applications had been received, and the allocation process was concluded following a thorough review of the conditions and procedures for the sales of houses under the NHP.

The review was conveyed in a circular issued by the Ministry on December 29, 2023.

Out of the total applications received, 1,294 were for outright payment, 2,408 for mortgage, 2,184 for rent to own, and 3,039 were for installment payment modes.

The Ministry has ensured that the successful applicants under the Outright Payment mode will be contacted by the Federal Controllers of Housing and Urban Development in the states, as well as the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) from April 18, 2024, for collection.

Applicants who applied under the mortgage, rent to own, and installment payment modes are currently undergoing profiling as subscribers to the National Housing Fund (NHF).

However, it is important to note that there are no completed houses in Abia, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers states, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Ministry has assured that allocation of houses in these states will be done upon the completion of the housing units later in the year.

The National Housing Programme is a critical initiative by the federal government, which aims to provide affordable housing options to Nigerian citizens.

Through this program, eligible applicants can access low-interest, government-funded loans to finance their housing needs.

With this recent development, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is demonstrating its commitment to providing adequate and affordable housing to Nigerians, thereby contributing to the nation’s overall economic growth and development.
