Federal Government Acquires Mobile Power Substations for Stable Electricity

The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently acquired over 10 mobile power stations in an effort to address the challenges surrounding power supply in the country.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced this development during a meeting with the Forum of Commissioners of Energy in Nigeria, as part of the government’s effort to strengthen collaboration between the federal and state governments.

Adelabu emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the root cause of the electricity problem and stated that the implementation stage has begun.

He encouraged the federal and state governments to work together, citing the example of Abia State, where Geometrics Power Limited has established a 188 megawatts power generating plant supplying and distributing power to several local government areas in the state.

The minister advised state governments to get involved in distribution networks, bridge the metering gap, and invest in power infrastructure.

He also highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between states and DISCOs, as well as the importance of the new Electricity Act, which grants states the responsibility of managing electricity affairs within their territories.

In response, the chairman of the forum and Commissioner of Power and Energy in Cross River State, Prince Eka Williams, expressed the forum’s unwavering support for the federal government’s electricity reforms and their readiness to work together to resolve the challenges.

With these developments, the government aims to achieve regular power supply and improve the quality of life for citizens across the country.
