El-Rufai Meets with SDP Leaders Amid Defection Rumors

Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has recently met with several Social Democratic Party (SDP) leaders, fueling speculation about his future political plans and a potential presidential bid in 2027.

The meetings, which took place at the Abuja residence of Senator Abubakar Gada and the SDP secretariat, included prominent figures such as Senator Shehu Musa Gabam, Senator Teslim Folarin, Senator Nazif Suleiman, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Kashim Ibrahim-Imam.

The gatherings, which included an iftar (the breaking of fast) during Ramadan, have sparked various reactions on social media, with many speculating about El-Rufai’s political intentions.

However, El-Rufai’s media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, has denied any political motives behind the visits, stating that they were merely personal relationships that exist independently of political affiliations.

In one of the meetings, El-Rufai was pictured with Senator Gada, SDP chairman Gabam, and other party leaders.

In another gathering, he was seen with Senator Folarin, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Senator Suleiman, a PDP chieftain from Bauchi State.

Despite the denial of any political motives, the meetings have raised questions about El-Rufai’s future in Nigerian politics, as well as the potential for cross-party collaborations and alliances.

As the country continues to navigate its political landscape, the interactions between leaders from various parties and factions may play a significant role in shaping the future of Nigerian politics.
