Edo State’s CRPP Urges Impeachment Panel Members to Decline Involvement in Shaibu Investigation

The Edo State chapter of the Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has recently called upon the members of the impeachment panel, established by Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to reject the opportunity to investigate the allegations against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

In a statement released by its chairman, Samson Isibor, and secretary, John Isidhaome, the CRPP highlighted the independence of each arm of government and criticized the actions of the Edo State House of Assembly.

They emphasized that the Chief Judge appeared to be prompted to convene the panel and urged the panel members to decline their appointments based on moral grounds.

The CRPP further advised Governor Godwin Obaseki to reconsider the impeachment process, pointing out the temporary nature of power and the importance of fair play and justice.

The group cited the actions of the Edo State House of Assembly, which had previously rebuffed a court summon from a Federal High Court, as evidence of the Assembly’s disregard for the judiciary.

The CRPP’s appeal to the moral instinct of the panel members comes at a crucial time, as the group believes that Deputy Governor Shaibu has served Governor Obaseki and the House of Assembly with a court summon from a court of competent jurisdiction.

They believe that the impeachment process should be halted in the interest of justice and fair play.

In light of these developments, the CRPP has called upon the Chief Judge of Edo State to emulate the actions of two previous Chief Judges in Ondo State, who stood their ground and refused to be influenced by external forces.

The group believes that such actions will ultimately lead to peace and stability in Edo State.

As the situation in Edo State continues to unfold, the CRPP’s appeal to the impeachment panel members and the Chief Judge highlights the importance of maintaining the independence of the judiciary and upholding the principles of fair play and justice.
