Edo State Applauds Tinubu’s 6-Month Plan to Fix Benin-Okene Road

The people of Edo State have expressed their gratitude towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works David Umahi for setting a six-month timeline to reconstruct the dilapidated Benin-Auchi-Okene Highway.

This news has been met with praise and optimism from various stakeholders, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, also known as Akpakomiza.

Senator Okpebholo commended the federal government’s swift action and said that President Tinubu had given the people of Edo State renewed hope through the road project.

The Benin-Auchi-Okene Road project, which was initially awarded in 2012, was not completed and became a major concern for the state.

The project is divided into four sections, with different contractors handling each part.

The issue of the deteriorating road was brought to the forefront by Senators Adams Oshiomhole and Okpebholo, who co-sponsored a motion in the 10th Assembly last year.

The duo has once again put pressure on the government to address the issue, citing the impending rainy season that would further worsen the road’s condition.

A socio-cultural group, Edo’Okpa Youth Movement, has also praised the efforts of Senators Oshiomhole and Okpebholo for their intervention in the abandoned highway project.

The group’s leader, Barrister Pascal Ero, highlighted the state’s neglect in terms of infrastructure and the fact that vehicles from the North now prefer to go through Lokoja or Okene to avoid the hazardous Benin-Auchi-Okene Expressway.

Barrister Ero further emphasized the importance of having leaders who will collaborate with the federal government to bring development and infrastructure to the state.

He lauded the leadership qualities of Akpakomiza and expressed the group’s support for the APC governorship candidate, stating that they want action and not just rhetoric.

The Edo State community is now looking forward to the completion of the Benin-Auchi-Okene Road project within the six-month timeline set by President Tinubu and the Minister of Works.

This development is seen as a positive step towards improving the state’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
