Edo Police Arrest Constable for Threatening Civilians with AK-47 Rifle

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a police constable, Prince Chima, attached to the Department of Operatives (DOP), for allegedly threatening some civilians with an AK-47 rifle in their residence.

The incident was captured in a viral video on X and came to the attention of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye.

In response to the video, the Edo State Police Command ordered an investigation by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the X-Squad section.

The investigation aimed to ascertain Chima’s mental health status and initiate an orderly room trial, a disciplinary process for police officers.

During the investigation, technical intelligence was used to identify and arrest Chima, who was enlisted on January 10, 2020, and trained at the Police Training School in Ogida, Benin City.

Chima was initially assigned to the National Deputy Chairman South South of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Dan Orbih, through the Department of Operations.

Chima explained that on April 7, 2024, he was on duty at the Nipco Petrol Station along Siloko Road, Benin City, when he had an altercation with a young man who came to charge his phone.

The man allegedly called Chima a “smelling policeman,” which led to a confrontation.

After the manager of the petrol station intervened, Chima followed the man to his residence, where the incident captured in the viral video took place.

The Edo State Police Commissioner commended the civilians involved for their patience and tactfulness in handling the situation.

He also assured the public that Chima would face the consequences of his actions.

The Edo State Police Command’s swift action demonstrates the commitment to maintaining the integrity of the police force and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens of Edo State.
