Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru Warns New APC Members Against Forming Groups

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has issued a stern warning to new entrants in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against forming groups within the party.

The governor’s statement came during the funeral ceremony of late HRH Christopher Igboke Ewa, who was assassinated in February 2023.

Nwifuru emphasized the importance of unity and peace within the party, cautioning against actions that could lead to crises.

Expressing his displeasure over the activities of some defectors who have started forming groups within the APC, Governor Nwifuru highlighted the potential risks to the existing harmony in the party.

He urged the new members to be careful and avoid actions that could disrupt the party’s unity.

In addition to addressing the issue of group formation, Governor Nwifuru also expressed disappointment with the conduct of some of his appointees.

He referred to an incident at a defection rally in Ezza North Council headquarters during the week, where two commissioners from the area reportedly engaged in a fight.

The governor instructed the family of the late Ewa to nominate a single person for appointment as commissioner.

Furthermore, Governor Nwifuru warned the local government chairmen from Ezza South and North Council Areas against abandoning their duties and instigating crises.

He emphasized that he would not hand over the government to any group of people that are fighting and reiterated the importance of former Governor David Umahi, Chief Martin Elechi, and Senator Pius Anyim in choosing his successor.

Political unrest has been a concern in Ezza South and North Council Areas in recent times following the defection of some prominent political figures.

Governor Nwifuru’s visit to the burial of the late traditional ruler provided an opportunity for him to console the family and assure them that the killers of HRH Christopher Igboke Ewa would not go unpunished.

He encouraged the people to live in peace and refrain from hatred.

Accompanying Governor Nwifuru to the burial were notable political figures, including former Governor and current Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi; former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim; Senators Kenneth Eze, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, and Okorie Ani; House of Representatives members; and members of the State Executive Council.

As the political landscape in Ebonyi State evolves, Governor Nwifuru’s call for unity and peace within the APC remains a significant step towards ensuring stability and progress for the state.
