The incident occurred at approximately 10:14 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, leading to a swift response from emergency responders.

As the Dana Air plane overshot the runway, the airport’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARRFS) were immediately mobilized to the scene.

Despite the tense atmosphere, all passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft through the emergency exit gate.

As of the time of reporting, the plane remained stuck in the grass near the runway, with no reported injuries among the passengers.

The cause of the runway incursion remains unclear, and investigators from the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have been deployed to the scene to probe the incident.

A source from the NSIB has indicated that a statement will be issued shortly, providing more information on the event.

This incident has undoubtedly raised concerns about the safety protocols and operational standards at the Murtala Muhammad Airport, as well as the overall safety record of Dana Air.

The swift response from emergency services and the successful evacuation of passengers without any reported injuries are positive aspects of the situation.

However, the incident has also highlighted the need for thorough investigations and the implementation of necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As the aviation industry in Nigeria continues to grow, ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers and staff should be a top priority.

The outcome of the NSIB’s investigation will likely shed light on the factors contributing to the runway incursion and provide recommendations for enhancing safety measures at the airport and within the airline.

In the meantime, passengers and the general public are advised to stay informed about the situation and any updates from the relevant authorities.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and the need for continuous improvement in the aviation industry to maintain the trust and confidence of passengers and stakeholders alike.
