Customs Officer Killed by Truck Passengers in Katsina State

In a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday morning along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, a customs officer was reportedly killed by truck passengers.

The incident took place at Gamjin Makaho village, as the truck was en route to Dankama town.

According to reports, the customs officers had asked the truck driver to stop, but he refused. One of the armed customs officers allegedly fired a shot, which hit a passenger in the waist.

The truck driver eventually stopped, and the passengers disembarked to confront the customs officers.

In the ensuing melee, the customs officer, whose name and rank were not disclosed, was killed by the enraged passengers.

The passenger who was shot, identified as Bashir Na-Buzuwa, a 27-year-old man from Doro town in Bindawa LGA, residing at Zanguna in Katsina city, also died from the gunshot wound.

Confirming the incident, the Customs Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, SC Tahir Balarabe, stated that the Service would issue an official statement on the incident.

He also mentioned that they were working on evacuating the remains of their deceased colleague.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of customs officers and the use of force during confrontations with civilians.

The Nigerian Customs Service is expected to provide more details and take appropriate action to address the situation.
