Blackout in Abuja and Kogi: Power Station Collapse Causes Major Outage

Abuja, Nigeria – A power station collapse has led to a major blackout in the Nigerian cities of Abuja and Kogi, leaving residents in the affected areas without electricity.

The outage, which started on March 20, 2024, is the result of technical glitches and a power station collapse.

According to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, the blackout is due to a technical fault on the 33kv feeder k6 from the AT9 Karu Transmission Station, which is managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The affected areas in Abuja include Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, Old Karu Road, and Glory Estate.

The TCN has announced that its maintenance crew will carry out planned maintenance on its TR3 45MVA and TR2 60MVA power transformers in its 132/33kV Okene Transmission Substation.

The maintenance is scheduled to last two days, starting on March 19, 2024, and ending on March 20, 2024.

During this period, Abuja DisCo will not be able to offtake power from the substation to its customers in Okene Town and, on March 20, 2024, in Kabba, Ososo, and Ikare.

The TCN has assured residents that bulk power supply will be restored to Abuja DisCo immediately after maintenance work is completed.

In the meantime, residents of the affected areas are urged to remain patient and to take necessary precautions during the power outage.

This blackout is just the latest in a series of power disruptions that have plagued Nigeria in recent years.

The country has struggled to provide reliable electricity to its citizens due to a variety of factors, including aging infrastructure, insufficient investment, and inadequate maintenance.

The power station collapse in Abuja and Kogi has resulted in a major blackout, leaving residents in the affected areas without electricity.

The TCN is working to restore power as soon as possible, but in the meantime, residents are urged to remain patient and take necessary precautions.
