Bishop Kukah Urges Nigerian Government to Interrogate Individuals Claiming Ties with Bandits

Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has called for the Nigerian government to thoroughly interrogate individuals claiming to have close ties with bandits.

The bishop expressed concern over the government’s failure to investigate these individuals and stressed the need for decisive action to address the insecurity plaguing the northern regions of Nigeria.

Kukah’s comments come in the wake of a series of school kidnappings, including the abduction of 137 schoolchildren in Kuriga, Kaduna State, who were recently freed from captivity.

The bishop highlighted the importance of considering the psychological impact of such abductions on the children.

The influential Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi was recently invited for questioning by security agencies over his comments regarding the activities of bandits.

Bishop Kukah emphasized that the government has the capacity to apprehend perpetrators of such crimes and urged collaboration between security agencies and individuals with relevant information.

The bishop’s call for action underscores the urgency of addressing the security challenges in Nigeria’s northern regions.

By interrogating those claiming to have ties with bandits, the government can take a significant step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens and preventing further acts of violence and abduction.
