Atiku Urges Overhaul of Nigeria’s Security Architecture Following Release of Kidnapped Students

In response to the release of 287 kidnapped schoolchildren in Kuriga, Kaduna State, Nigeria’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called for an overhaul of the country’s security architecture to address the growing insecurity challenges.

The students, who were held captive for 16 days, were recently freed, prompting Atiku to commend the efforts of those responsible for securing their release.

Atiku emphasized the need for strengthening the Safe School Initiative to prioritize the protection of schools, particularly in vulnerable areas where mass kidnappings of schoolchildren are prevalent.

He stressed that proactive measures must be taken to prevent future incidents, rather than waiting for the next one to occur.

Recognizing the trauma that the students must have endured, Atiku recommended that the children receive psychotherapeutic care from professionals to help them recover from their ordeal.

He also highlighted the urgency of addressing the growing insecurity in the country, likening it to stage four cancer that requires immediate and proactive measures to be stopped.

As the nation grapples with the issue of insecurity, Atiku’s call for an overhaul of the security architecture is a timely reminder of the need for a comprehensive and robust approach to ensure the safety and protection of Nigerian citizens.

It remains to be seen whether the government will heed his advice and take the necessary steps to strengthen the country’s security measures.
